Blog 2 2019 What a Year!
I can’t quite believe Vavavoom is now 7 years old!! We have come along way since we opened in 2013, selling predominantly Prom dresses and evening dresses, to where we are now. Back in 2013 I clearly remember we had 40 styles in stock now we stock over 300!
We have helped thousands of prom girls find their dream dress and met some incredible people along the way. We have been lucky enough to work and collaborate with the best in the industry and partnered with fabulous designers from across the globe.
This is just the beginning for Vavavoom Boutique and we can’t wait to show you what 2020 has in store, but for now a journey in reverse and a look back at the amazing year 2019.
So what did 2019 bring? Well for me personally my journey of learning and unlearning continued, and some hard work life balance decisions were made.
Vavavoom Boutique is now my full time commitment, after 6 years of juggling both working for an employer “driving a desk in the corporate world”, building vavavoom and raising a family. I took the giant leap of faith to leave my day job behind.
I believe we have now built a successful and recognisable brand ‘Vavavoom’! The time was right for everyone, my fabulous employer who I enjoyed 12 years loyal work with retired, Vavavoom needed me more and more and Ellie headed for University. Sometimes life has a funny way of working out for everyone.
Our diary was chock a block with appointments, we brought a fabulous collection in 2019 and our little boutique was filled with gorgeous dresses, happy times, hugs and occasionally tears of joy.
We enjoyed glorious sunshine as Vavavoom prom girls rocked prom in 2019, over 250 amazing photos and fabulous messages landed in our inbox during prom week, quite overwhelming. Thank you everyone your support really does mean the world to us.
So what will 365 blank new pages bring?
Well Dear 2020….
I know I haven’t known you long but I have a feeling you and I are going to do great things with 365 brand new opportunities!!
We already have the best prom collection we have ever put together for prom 2020. An exciting new venture, and a brand new collection which has never been seen before which will be exclusive to vavavoom – how exciting.
This is just the beginning for Vavavoom Boutique and we can’t wait to show you what 2020 has in store!
Blog 1 What a Year 2018
2018 really has been the most extraordinary year for Vavavoom. We’ve achieved so much that picking out the highlights for this blog took a while and, I must confess some of that was down to the enjoyment of browsing through our social media pages, revisiting them all.
First off, it was
lovely to revisit a young lady called Casie Austin who was crowned
‘Miss Teen Top Model’. This inspiring young lady had put her
heels on for the first time in two and half years after breaking her
ankle and learning to walk again! We were privileged to feature
alongside her in the Gazette & Herald after she’d wowed on the
catwalk wearing Vavavoom.
I still remember the call from Perrin Read from Roth Read Photography as she excitedly explained their concept for Celebrity Style photo-shoots in a new venture with The Principal Hotel. Would we like to be involved? Hell yes! So, we rolled the red carpet out in York and three publications hopped right on it: Hello Yorkshire, The York Press and Living Magazine all featured articles about our unique collaboration.
We also had the honour of dressing Ruby Hill who was crowned ‘Teen Face of Europe and the World’ having competed in a week long international pageant competition in Disneyland, Paris.
She visited us twice selecting gorgeous pieces to wear during her reigning year.
There’s another confession I’m afraid: we broke a rule, which we never do. Yes we do have a ‘one dress one school policy’ but when twin sisters visited us and wanted the same dress, we just had to say yes. We are so glad we did as they looked twice as stunning!
As the fabulous summer continued, we worked with Kathrine from Fleur Adamo to create a flower dress for York in Bloom. Our unique dress drew lots of attention and is pictured worn by the beautiful model Zoe.
We enjoyed glorious sunshine as Vavavoom joined Fenwicks of York in their flagship store for their summer Garden party. Champagne, music, dresses and sunshine . . . just perfect , we had such a fun filled 10 days
Way above all that though, our diary was chock a block with appointments for prom. We bought a fabulous collection in 2018 and our little boutique was filled with gorgeous dresses, dazzling girls, happy times, hugs and occasionally tears of joy. Vavavoom girls rocked prom 2018!
a personal level 2018 has been a balancing act of learning and
unlearning. At times I have struggled to do it all but now the team
has grown so the work is shared, just as the exciting new ventures
ahead will be.
So, what will 2019 and 365 blank new pages bring? Well I’m just going to enjoy the journey because I have an incredible team who share the same values and I know we have the best prom collection we have ever put together!
